about

Modified a little bit (by way of improvement!) from its original webcast on The National Cynical Network's audio webcast stream (for more info see nationalcynical.com/webcast) on Sept. 4th, 2022 and based on our 2014 program 'The Shining Remix Project', we present, here a new program, part research project, part work of art that we daresay is probably the most comprehensive remix program about the iconic Stanley Kubrick 1980 horror film 'The Shining', in existence.

The MUCH shorter 'The Shining Remix Project' (which makes an appearance in this marathon) was very well received but we felt it DESERVES A BIG UPDATE because much MUCH MORE 'Shining' material and remixes have come out since then.

From collages and musical pieces using samples from the movie, to comedic sendups, edits and parodies, from in-depth analyses of the film, to fan theories, to behind-the-scenes accounts of (and interviews from) the making of the film and its history, to an actual visit to the legendary Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado (widely considered to be 'the most haunted site in the country) where the story of The Shining was first conceived, and on which it was based..., this sprawling, exhaustive treatment of this classic work of horror fiction sonically puts you smack dab in the middle of the hoary, haunted netherworld of The Overlook Hotel for its over 15 hour running time duration.

Just... be careful of Room 237.

Some technical notes about this program: First of all, it is recommended that one listens to it with headphones and with 'gapless' playback for best effect. meaning with no pauses between tracks. Secondly, please noe that this overall program employs many, many different clips from many different sources. While every effort has been made by this program's creator to regulate the inherent varying original volume levels between these clips, it is still possible that volume changes during the course of this program may occur which might be uncomfortable for the listener. For this reason, it is recommended that one engages the appropriate 'replay gain' setting on one's media player when listening to this work.

The 3-hour original 'The Shining Remix Project' is STILL available at Mixcloud:

Will fill in more accreditation and details later.

Enjoy!
