about

This is the first track of disc 4 of 4 for this program.

Frank talks about the production of Freak Out! and the use of a 16 track machine which was a new device at the time. Frank talks about Stravinsky with an interviewer who he warns is getting in over his head in the interview. This is played over various pieces by Zappa mixed together with effects. Clips from 'The Air' (song).

In a non-cynical moment, Frank says this, which seems to be about what he expects from younger members of Generation X but also from the Millennials: "Obviously, it is necessary and desirable that people who are 18 and over have the right to vote... The question is whether they're going to be intelligent enough to do something better with it than what their parents did in the past. I'm just waiting to see that. I have great hopes however for the generation coming up within the next 40 years. You know, the little kids... people who will have a better overview of the media in it's fully developed state". (This phrase 'the media' is echoed out and repeated in a post-production 'tweak' for emphasis).
