This is a remix done by The National Cynical Network (NCN) of the Nine Inch Nails' song 'Burn'. The original song was released on the soundtrack for the film 'Natural Born Killers'. The soundtrack was released in August of 1994.

This remix transforms the original NIN piece into being about the January 6th, 2021 riot that took place in Washington D.C., after the 2020 U.S. Presidential election, at the so-called 'Stop the Steal' rally.

The riot took place at the incitement of then-President Donald J. Trump which is a matter that is still being looked into by a Congressional committee at the time of this remix's posting.

This remix was worked on for over 1.5 years, off and on, until it is finally in the state now where NCN believes that it is finished. It will be released on our coming album "The 'Master' Special" which will be released on our Bandcamp site soon:

Description:

SPOILER ALERT!

In this remix version, we first hear Trump's voice, mixed with musc, speaking in the pre-election era about his political rival Joe Biden who went on to become Trump's presidential successor.

We then hear some clips from the aforementioned speech at the rally, first from Trump's then-personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani adressing the crowd and then, Trump himself does so. Rudy's comments quoted here are ironic in light of the Trump documents scandal that came fully into the public eye on August 8th, 2022, when the FBI issued a search warrant to Trump's Florida Mar-a-Lago residence.

After this point, music is mixed in with sounds from the actual riots, news announcers commenting while the event is taking place, and the sounds of radio dispatch officers talking over the radio while the riot was happening.

The piece finally ends with a statement about the riots and Trump''s culpability by Nancy Pelosi who was speaker of The House of Representatives at the time and was a key target of the rioters on that day. The statement was made to an unknown media source shortly after the riot took place.

We, like most Americans, were not there that day. But, like most Americans we were very much affected by what transpired there.and this piece is an expression of that.

The original song, 'Burn' is being used here FAIRLY because it has been significantly TRANSFORMED into a musical REMIXTURE and is therefore identifiably and demonstrably DISTINCT from the original.

It is also being used here as a cultural reference and touchstone and AS A COMMENTARY ON THE SONG ITSELF which, we are demonstrating, turned to be eerily prescient and timeless in relation to the significant events in question that took place over 26 years after the song was released.

I mean, it was almost as if Reznor wa channelling Trump himself that day (see song lyrics, below).
