O'Brien and the Dead Man

from The 1984 Remix Project by NCN

/

about

Acting on the 'We are the Dead' leitmotif that runs throughout 1984 we illustrate with a piece of popular culture namely a song 'Thanks for the Add' Brad Sucks which is heard in part in the form of the remix of the song by Amanyth called 'Dead Man'. This is mixed with the 1949 radio play with David Niven in which he and Julia recalls the St. Clemons poem and talk of the inevitability of their discovery and capture.

The song ends, and then a scene with Winston and O'Brien in which Winston is invited to O'Brien's home. Something that is never done in the dystopian future of 1984.

The original song by Brad Sucks can be found here:

lyrics

gimme the mic cause i’m taking my life
in an unexpected new direction
i could care less about your breasts
or that your daddy never gave you very much attention
i’m the same as i used to be but i’m
doing my best to make a good impression
i don’t wanna go on but i don’t wanna belong
in this condition

did you know that i’m your biggest fan
i just wanna thank you for the add
can i introduce you to my dad

i’m feeling like a
dead man or the way i seem
cause i’m living underground with a fake id
i’m feeling like a
dead man or the way i seem
cause i’m twitching and i’m learning slowly

i’m turning my cell phone on in the middle of the interview
i’m digging a shallow grave to eliminate my point of view
gotta get suggestions how best to get your attention tell you i’m cool
i don’t wanna go on but i don’t wanna be long
in this condition

did you know that i’m your biggest fan
i just wanna thank you for the add
can i introduce you to my dad

i’m feeling like a
dead man or the way i seem
cause i’m living underground with a fake id
i’m feeling like a
dead man or the way i seem
cause i’m twitching and i’m learning slowly
