NCN - 2007 Halloween Show Part 1 of 2 Details:

SPOILER ALERT: For best effect, it is recommended to NOT READ THESE DETAILS before listening to this work in order to preserve the element of delighted recognition, mystery and surprise which is an inherent and intended part of this fashioned listening experience. Feel free to check them out AFTER listening, though.

This features original mixes, plus some Cheekyboy mashups stolen from the 2007 Mashing Pumpkins mash-up project. Negativland's Helter Stupid cut-up with Thomas Dolby (done by NCN) titled 'I Scare Myself Stupid' and available as a separate track in this Bandcamp package. Also, some modified versions of sequences from 'To Be, Or What' a show about death done in the 1990's with the late Don Joyce (of Negativland) on his KPFA radio show 'Over the Edge' (the NCN offering of this entire show can be found here: bit.ly/3BuSbrS).

There is also a cool (mostly 70's and 80's) classic horror film collage/montage in here that we did which culminates in a nice Psycho / Norman Bates collage we also put together (this Bates pieces uses material mixed with Don from the second show I ever did with him called 'Mom and Dad' which can be found here: bit.ly/2ZI8mW7). It is our recollection that this collage derived from a cache of Horror Film Themes posted to Usenet back in the day, which we augmented with clips from some of the films. The collage opens with an excerpt from thhe Kate Bush song, 'Waking the Witch'.

The Norman Bates/Psycho collage includes samples from the original 1960 Hitchcock film 'Psycho' as well as 'Psycho II' (1983), material from Anthony (Norman Bates) Perkins' appearance on Saturday Night Live on March 13, 1976 is included as well as someone making a prank phone call with a Norman Bates soundboard. The collage winds up with a remix of the song, 'Murder' by David Gilmour, which has been augmented with samples from the original 1931 film, 'Frankenstein'.

These last two mentioned items are also available as separate tracks in this Bandcamp package.

After this, we get a couple of amped-up NCN mods of 'Classic Rock' covers. The first of which is 'Sympathy For The Devil' originally done by The Rolling Stones but covered here by Guns 'n' Roses from the 'Interview with the Vampire' movie soundtrack (we hear part of comedienne Sandra Bernhard's MUCH more downbeat version of the old song at the end). And then, also from the 'To Be, Or What?' show, we hear a mostly on-the-fly remix of comedian Sam Kinison's cover of AC/DC's 'Highway to Hell'.

This hour concludes with a spooky version of a Mary Poppins song (Chim-Chimaree) by the elusive 'ARON9085'.

To be continued in Part 2 of 2 of this mix (next track).
