Torture Session 1

from The 1984 Remix Project by NCN

/

about

We go back into the narrative in the story. O'Brien (Richard Burton, in his last role) talks to Winston Smith (John Hurt) from the 1984 film, 1984. In the background, the music by Eurythmics (Room 101) gradually fades to the soundtrack music from the film, incidental to the scene.

O'Brien questions Winston and tells him he is to be cured. He jolts Winston with electricity. He tell Winston that he is mentally deranged. He posits that Winston must believe 2+2=5 if the party dictates that he is to do so. He asks Winston if he sees 4 or 5 fingers which O'Brien holds up. Winston struggles to really see 5. He shocks Winston again with electricity.
