about

We hear part of Radiohead's song '2+2=5'. A title which denotes an idea which will figure into the story coming up.

For more information on this song go to:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2_%2B_2_%3D_5_%28song%29

Over the song, we hear more of the college lecture on the setting of 'The Ministry of Love'.

This piece in the background abruptly changes to Bad Religion's '"Boot Stamping On A Human Face Forever' which is a phrase from Orwell's '1984'. This is mixed with more material from 'George Orwell's 1984 - What it is really about' from youtube which is by theantisauronist. He talks about the lampooning of the left's attempt to control language in 1984. The college lecturer (Bob Ahlersmeyer) talks about Room 101. The background segues at this point to an excerpt from the piece '(Multiple Instances) 2+2=5' by The National Cynical Network from the album 'Walking on Rooftops' which can be found here:

nationalcynical.bandcamp.com/track/multiple-instances-2-2-5

The lecturer is heard talking about the detention setting (Ministry of Love) over Eurythmics piece, 'Ministry of Love'. Near the end this changes to the Eurythmics piece 'Room 101'.

lyrics

2+2=5 By Radiohead

Are you such a dreamer
To put the world to rights
I'll stay home forever
Where two and two always makes a five
I'll lay down the tracks
Sandbag and hide
January has April showers
And two and two always makes a five
It's the devil's way now
There is no way out
You can scream and you can shout
It is too late now
Because you're not there
Payin' attention
Payin' attention
Payin' attention
Payin' attention
yeah I feel it, I needed attention
Payin' attention
Payin' attention
Payin' attention
Yeah I need it, I needed attention
I needed attention
I needed attention
I needed attention
Yeah I love it, the attention
Payin' attention
Payin' attention
Payin' attention
Soon oh
I try to sing along
But the music's all wrong
Cos I'm not
Cos I'm not
I'll swallow up flies?
Back and hide
But I'm not
Oh hail to the thief
Oh hail to the thief
But I'm not
But I'm not
But I'm not
But I'm not
Don't question my authority or put me in the box
Cos I'm not
Cos I'm not
Oh go up to the king, and the sky is falling in
But it's not
But it's not
Maybe not
Maybe not

===========

"Boot Stamping On A Human Face Forever" by Bad Religion

“Drop dead, it doesn’t matter,” she said
“It only hurts when I laugh,” she said
“Sometimes it’s never a crime
“To spend the day in bed”
She made certain that the curtains were red
To dream better by the light they would shed
She leaned back, tilted her head
And this is what she said…

“You can’t win; think it over again
“I can’t win; look at the trouble I’m in
“We can’t win and we’re stuck here together
“Yeah, I hope it will last forever.”

“Don’t ever dare to hope,” he said
“So I’m never let down too bad
“I know there’s nowhere to go
“So I’ll just stay here, instead”
He knew better than to pull at a thread
They unravel like the thoughts in his head
He looked out; it filled him with dread
And this is what he said…

[Chorus]

With good books and looks on their side
And hearts bursting with national pride
They sang songs and went along for the ride
And the other side complied
They said, "Hey, man, where do you reside?"
"And could it be mother’s superior lied?"
"And is it possible too many have died?"
It’s only natural to reply

[Chorus]
